Allstate’s Drive Wise – Pay as you go Car Insurance

Allstate Insurance introduces Drive Wise for car insurance that you pay as you go. Drive Wise is a car insurance program that keeps track of your driving habits and safety performance.

This “pay as you drive” auto insurance is designed to reward safe driving and low-mileage drivers with additional discounts.  Drivers who sign up for Drive Wise automatically receive a 10% discount.

Allstate’s new program is available in Illinois as a pilot state and the company expects to roll it out to other states in the near future. Many Allstate employees volunteered to have their driving performance tracked to help research the new auto insurance product.

How it works? When you sign up for the program you will receive a small wireless device that plugs into your car’s on-board computer system.  Drive Wise will only track performance areas such as how far you drive the car, the times of day you drive, your braking habits (extreme or hard braking) and maximum speeds (speed over 80 mph can adversely affect your rates).

Is this a GPS system? No, the Allstate wireless plug-in only tracks performance of your driving.  It does not track where you are or where you go.

How much can you save with Drive Wise? Newly enrolled drivers receive a 10 percent discount in the first term of the policy.  Car insurance renewals moving forward will receive discounts up to 10 percent based on safe driving habits.  The good news is that insurance rates will not increase based on driving scores.
